Presently Canada actively seeks the services of many immigrants. More than 250,000 immigrants arrive here every year. In January 2015 Canada renovated the rules governing immigration (Canada Work Visa) and Canada work permits and also launched the Express Entry system to hire skilled workers. There was a change in hiring temporary workers also.
The two main options
The two main options for employers intending to hire migrant workers are:
- The Express Entry Program
- Temporary Foreign Worker Program and International Mobility program
Express Entry has an aim to hire skilled workers. Moreover, it allows employers in selecting potential employees from a pool comprising many candidates. There is a ranking of potential migrants as per various factors like education, skills, language ability, and work experience.
Time necessary to get a work visa:
The Immigration authorities in Canada take 6 months or sometimes even less for processing EE applications. Furthermore, during this period the workers can reach on site by using the Temporary Foreign Worker Program or International Mobility program
There is a delay in case there are Mistakes or omissions in the application.
The Canadian work has three subcategories.
The Federal Skilled Worker Program
is popular with employers for bringing top educated and skilled workers, and professionals.
The Federal Skilled Trades Program
attracts skilled trades’ people, like industry technicians, construction specialists, and manufacturing supervisors.
Finally in the Canada Experience Class
caters to migrants who have previous work experience in Canada. There are three codes to Classify National Occupations
Managerial (Skill Level 0),
Professional (Skill Type A),
Technical (skill Type B)
CEC applications do not need a Labor Market Impact Assessment. Most of candidates in this category already live and work in Canada, and so this Class of visa serves as the quickest route to the employers to get a skilled worker.
Moreover, hiring a skilled worker by using the FSWP or FSTP needs an application for LMIA. This will reveal the genuine need to hire an overseas worker for the role, and also show that Canadian workers are not available. The job offer for making the LMIA must meet these conditions:
Federal Skilled Worker Program:
Full time, permanent, and not seasonal;
Managerial (Skill Level 0), Professional (Skill Type A), and Technical (skill Type B) in the NOC List
Federal Skilled Trades Program:
Full time, and lasting one year;
Technical (skill Type B) in the NOC List;
Offer wages at a similar level of native Canadians who work in the same role.
Canadian Experience Class:
LMIA is not necessary for this visa category. Moreover, the conditions for this category are similar to the FSWP
In the EE program any family members’ dependent on the main applicant gets the PR and also enjoys all the rights for living, working, and studying in Canada.
TFW Program and International Mobility Program
For the TFW Program and International Mobility Program the time to get hold of a work visa is minimum 30 days.
The TFWP and the IMP are similar visa categories, where employers can hire migrant workers for filling up short term labor needs and skill shortages.
After knowing the visa category for applying employers can make an official job offer to the candidate. Furthermore, after this they can apply and seek a Canada work permit
Finally, the dependent family members in TFWP program have to submit their own visa applications.
